Love letters don't lie
least of all yours which I
have kept for twenty years
in an elegant tin box
once full of chocolates--
on those rare occasions
when I see you, with or without
your long-time lover, I sometimes
go home to read them just for spite
I savor the words you labored over
to get the feeling or sentiment
just right; those letters blare
with the dulcet tones of truth
A certain part of your heart is still mine.
